I’ve seen posts about not being able to use the supersonic overseas however on the Australian site I came across this: https://support.dyson.com.au/supporthome.aspx/Hair-Care/Dyson-Supersonic/HD01/312252-01/using-your-dyson-supersonic/using-your-machine-abroad
so does this mean I can in fact use my North American dyson supersonic in Japan?

You should be fine.
However, Japan has strict rules about electronics entering their country via flights. Please do check with the Japanese travel ministries for guidance on bringing electronic hair appliances on board with you.
