v7 upholstery brush bar only spins with end cap off

My V7 Animal upholstery tool brush bar will only spin if I leave the end cap off.  If I put the end cap on and lock it into place, as soon as I switch on, it just pops open.  I looked online and saw a video where the grey cap came off of the purple piece that joins to the brush bar.  Mine won’t come off.  I’m not sure if it’s supposed to and that’s the problem.  Any thoughts?

Hi @Bluedog  Welcome the Ask the Community board. From what it sounds like there may be a bit of build up of hair and fibers in the tool itself. See if you can look further into the tool to see if you can locate a hair or fiber blockage and remove it to see if that corrects the problem. Also, check the end cap to see if it is also wore or damaged.
