What the regulations say

International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulations state that cordless straighteners can only be taken on an aircraft if the heaters are isolated from the battery, carried in carry-on baggage, and have a maximum Watt hour rating of 100W.

To adhere to this regulation, the Dyson Corrale™ Flight-ready tag disconnects and isolates the machine's battery from the heating technology. The 2020 battery pack has a 32 Watt hour rating and the 2022 battery pack has a 36 Watt hour rating.

200W is the maximum power drawn from the cells, rather than Watt hour rating of the internal battery pack.

Give your airline advance notice

Airline approval is required in advance if you're travelling with a battery-powered heat-producing product. Please contact your airline before you fly.

If you encounter any issues, either with an airline or at an airport, please see the information below on ICAO compliance.

Legal information for airlines

The Dyson Corrale™ hair straightener is compliant with the ICAO  document 9284 – The Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air.*

Part 8 of ICAO document 9284 states that by incorporating a removable component, which isolates the heaters from the battery pack, the provision for crew and passengers to carry such devices on board is satisfied.

It is therefore deemed that the incorporation of the flight-safe removable component into the Dyson Corrale™ straightener design should allow our owners to take their product on an aircraft.

The document also states that portable electronic devices containing lithium metal or lithium-ion cells or batteries, can be carried by passengers or crew in carry-on baggage for lithium-ion batteries with a Watt hour rating of 100Wh.
