Purifier connecting to wifi but not the app

Hi I have a 2017 Hot+Cool purifier that I have lost the remote for due to moving house. I can connect the machine but once it’s connected the app just goes back to the ‘add a machine’ page and I’m unable to use the app as the remote. Any idea how I can get it to actually connect to completion? 
Additionally, if I just get a replacement remote will they still work on my machine?

Connectivity can be enabled or disabled by pressing and holding the purifier's ON/OFF button for 5 seconds.

If you’re still having trouble using the app, you would find the article below helpful.
