how to test 360 camera quality / performance | Dyson Community

I just got a new Dyson 360 NAV and suspect that it’s having some visibility issues with the 360 camera because it’s not doing a very good job navigating and going to the edges of the floors not even close. When I zoom into the top of the 360 camera, it looks like there are potentially some tiny little defects or possibly chips or tiny Scratch and I’m wondering if this is what is hindering the performance ? is there a way to test if this is an issue or not? If we suspect there is an issue with the 360 camera is there a way to just replace the physical glass on the camera without replacing the entire unit? Like I said, I just got it recently, but even with numerous runs, it’s never covering the majority of our floors, even though I admit that it is a smaller place with a lot of things to navigate around. I have owned multiple much less expensive robot vacuums in the past and they have all done a much better job covering the majority of the floors, including Proscenic vacuums, which are a lot less expensive and tend to get more smart over time. I thought the Dyson too would get smarter overtime as it got used to our house and navigating, but it has not improved to my surprise unlike what I’m used to from the multiple Proscenic robot vacuums. (I’ve also had Trifo and 2 earlier   roombas) However , I got the Dyson vacuum because from what I understand the suction is much better and it should be able to Maintain a new carpet much better from pets and dirt accumulation, which is my goal since we are moving into our new house soon . I’m also very surprised that I am not able to witness where the vacuum is live while it’s moving on the map. That’s something I’m accustomed to with Proscenic robots and I would also be able to touch an area on the map and just to let it go clean there. Furthermore, I’m surprised that I am not able to spot clean an area from the map again unlike Proscenic. I thought the Dyson was going to be a high-end robot vacuum, but it seems like it’s really lacking on the computer programming robotic side of it even if it potentially has better suction and the ability to stop cleaning before it potentially gets Hung up on something which that part is good, but also the Proscenic robot towards the later models got really good navigating around chords and not causing an issue . But I did not like Proscenic service very much nor did I think they use the highest quality parts and I was looking for a much more high-end model due to our new house and carpets. So far, I’m disappointed in the Dyson robot vacuum even though I know it has the capability to do an excellent job and far pass Proscenic vacuum spot the computer navigation needs to get much smarter even if the 360 lands is potentially experiencing a tiny defect in the glass  at the top - not sure if that’s what’s going on there.

The robot checks its camera during every run. You will get a message to clean it, if its not working correctly.

Regarding the live status, you can see in which room its cleaning with the app as the room is displayed on the main screen. If you look at the cleaning maps you can also see where it already finished cleaning.

Interesting. In my app for the USA, there doesn’t appear to be a way I can see live cleaning. I’m only able to see what it is already cleaned after it is complete and gone to the charging station. That, or it’s not intuitive how one would get to view where the vacuum is cleaning at the moment - and I’m an ex engineer from high tech yet not figuring this out?? When I’ve tried to do this, it just shows the previous map from the previous day, but nothing new yet until the whole cleaning cycle is completed and it’s gone back to the dock.

Thats strange. As soon as the robot finishes its first room I am able to see this on the cleaning map. And whenever it finishes the next room it’s also marked on the map. Regarding the live status, this should be displayed on the main screen where you can pause the robot, see the cleaning map and set schedules.

Thank you Morcman. My App is not doing this - I dont “think”…..it depends on what you mean by showing the “live status”. It does indeed show a picture of the vacuum icon and if it is cleaning via text, but you can not go to the actual map to see any live cleanings, or the status of what has been cleaned so far, and what has not been cleaned room by room. Mine must complete the entire cycle that was scheduled before it will show anything new on the map. Until that time it only shows the previous completed day’s work. So do you mean you can just see in text format what it is doing, or do you mean you can go to the app to see it’s location and current status showing on the map what has been cleaned so far? It sounds odd to say this but perhaps my $299.00 USD Proscenic robots has spoiled me to their controls and mapping functions. The Proscenic vacuum also would get smarter and smarter as the robot continued to clean the house and it would refine the mapping and work towards cleaning the entire house. So far the Dyson has not done this and seems locked into whatever the first “mapping” session was to save the original map - and I have done this 2 different times. Maybe most Dyson clients are rich with huge homes that have things nicely spread out vs a family of 4 with 2 large dogs in a 1500 ft2 currently, which requires continuous dynamic learning and navigation refinement as we move things slightly over to one side or put something down temporarily etc….dyson cant seem to handle these sorts of changes and did a very very poor job with initial mapping. It won't even clean the house on 1 charge, it always has to stop ½ through to charge. I never had such poor battery life with any of the other robot vacuums I owned. But I bought Dyson because generally they make good quality stuff and I heard that it deep cleaned carpet much better than other robot vacs, which I was wanting because we are building a new larger house and it will have a substantial amount of carper. But I am thinking about taking this back due to the performance so far although I want to give Dyson more chances also hoping the their updates will fix these issues. I like the mechanics of the robot itself but the program so far has been below other brands I’ve used thus far (Proscenic, Trifo, and one other but I don’t count it as I took that one back for Proscenic). Proscenic vacuum parts is not near as good as Dyson yet navigation far superior so far. 😞 I am tempted to take back the Dyson 360 Nav and just get a Roborock Curve, but I want to hear from the actual Dyson engineers on this (I used to be a senior yield engineer and front end shift manager from high tech semiconductor with experience designing internal apps for better productivity and overall operational efficiency - so I have high expectations, especially for a company like Dyson charging a PREMIUM price tag. If I were the company I would have done more pilot testing using people like me for feedback before anything was released, as so far the performance is unacceptable for the quality name.

I wish the ACTUAL DYSON ENGINEERS WOULD MONITOR THESE FORUMS AND PROVIDE FEEDBACK vs rely on free advice from other users who aren't plugged into the company - cheap out, and not robust quality control!! This is coming from someone who has 8 total Dyson products in the system.

Everytime the robot moves over to the next room the map gets updated with the coverage of the last room its been cleaning in. I dont know whats wrong with yours. Did you labeled all your rooms accordingly?
