Dyson V11 Disappointment | Dyson Community

I finally got my first cordless vacuum. It has been 6 months now. My frustration and disappointment have motivated this post.

First, let me mention the good things:  The battery life, and I like the wall mount charge station.

Now for the bad...

  1. Does Dyson not consider that it is usually a woman that uses their product? I am a 61-yr-old woman who is in great shape (I power lift 2x a week). In spite of that, this vacuum is a work out to use. The top half is heavy and cumbersome to use. I can barely maneuver it with one hand if I am using an attachment to clean a cushion. The weight of it is too much for my wrist and forearm to support. Also, the weight and pressure on the knuckle on the base of my thumb results in pain and a blister if I use it for too long. I hate cleaning, and add in pain? Seriously?
  2. The struggle is real folks. Trying to remove the wand from the main canister!  Yes I have fully depressed the button, but I struggle every time trying to remove the wand so I can empty the canister. I have to be sure to hold it upright and give it a hard shake downward to have gravity help me. I’m 5’1”. Because of the length of the vacuum, this means it is pretty darn awkward for me to hold it upright off the floor.
  3. None, I repeat NONE of the attachments are easy to remove or re-attach. Again, does Dyson not include women when they test these things? Why does it take superman strength?
  4. The filter! OMG. I have tried soaking it in vinegar, leaving it out in the Texas sun, everything I can think of to deodorize it. I have 1 dog and 2 cats. Nothing works to mitigate the stink of that filter.
  5. And finally, the rotating brush scratched the hell out of my finished concrete floors. I cannot use it. My entire house is stained concrete. I am stuck using the teeny tiny floor attachment. Takes forever to vaccum. I have resorted to a dust mop and then vacuuming up the piles (that is if I can get the friggin attachment off the wand!).

I spent a lot of money on this vacuum. I was so excited to be free of a cord. But, the trade-off was not worth it. Especially when I am in pain after using this it (redness and abrasion on the lower thumb knuckle where the majority of the weight of the vacuum rests). What a complete and utter disappointment. And because i have spent so much money on this thing, I am stuck with it until I can justify replacing it.

Maybe you are a bit too old? No offense, but the in-line configuration of the Dyson V11 is definitely a bit front-heavy. The trigger instead of any normal button definitely didn't help. Also, you forgot soaps (for washing filter) and the Fluffy head - that soft roller would do wonders for you and your concrete floors. And finally, the quick-release tools are one-touch - shouldn't take too much force to do the job.

Hi @Txtcher,

@Absolute Rainbow . Wow. Your question suggesting I am too old is unbelievably discriminatory and offensive. How dare you make such a comment?!

Too old? To use a vacuum? Your question about my age demonstrates a level of ignorance which leads me to believe you have the mental maturity of a 5 year old.

You also must have missed my statement in my op about being in great shape and power lifting twice a week.

You owe me an apology.

And here is some free advice:  never, ever make a comment suggesting someone is too old. Did you mother teach you nothing?

1) Your description showed you were physically out of your prime. You're in a great shape for your age, sure, but younger people won't have as much issues with the weight and the trigger as you, miss.

2) I'm not trying to be offensive. I'm trying to help you. Please don't get the wrong idea.

You are still making offensive assumptions. You have stated that regardless of what shape I am in, that because I am older, I cannot possibly be stronger than someone younger. Please stop discriminating against people based on their age. I am stronger than most women regardless of age.

You have defined my age as “physically out of your prime.” What is your point? That only people in their prime can purchase and use this product? Do you really believe Dyson would support that as a marketing strategy?

So while you claim you have the best intentions, your insistence and assertion it is my age is not a valid argument. And while I want to state it is irrelevant, it actually bolsters my point this is a poorly designed product in that it should be a product anyone of reasonable sound mind and body can use.
