I’ve tried all the suggestions to check what is wrong. When plugged into the charger, the blue lights are steady. But it doesn’t switch on, at all. So I gather I need a new battery. But I cannot figure out how to remove the old one. There is one screw at the front, which I have removed. Cannot remove the barrel, to find another one. Any suggestions?

I’ve checked their website and this is the V6 design, incorporating the SV03/04/05/09. These models had a screw in the handle in addition to the base. Both require removal before the battery is released.
Their YouTube video should help point you in the right direction. V6 battery removal
