V12 Detect Slim turns off after a few seconds.


My V12 Detect Slim in Nickel has an issue where I press the power button and the unit functions normally for about 5 seconds, then without powering down, the motor just stops. The unit remains on though. I can repeat this process for about 4 or 5 times and it functions fine. It’s very annoying and it’s an issue with the main board of the unit, something in the start up sequence. It’s a manufacturing flaw.

  1. Happens all the time when using the unit. Fully charged, half charge, doesn’t matter.
  2. It used only happen with 1 false start. Now it’s up to 5 or 6 false starts before it functions as expected.
  3. There are no error codes on screen. Again, unit will function normally after a time of false starts. It has to be a capacitor issue on the mainboard, some voltage is wrong in the start up sequence it cuts power to the motors.
  4. There is no solution the customer and do to fix to the issue. Replacement of the body is the only solution and its a known issue to Dyson customer service.

#4 is why there are no replacement bodies available on their parts section of the Dyson website for out of warranty devices.

Customer Service said they don’t have warranty replacements in stock but I could send mine back and await fulfillment. You can read how well that goes here for others. You’ll wait a couple weeks and a couple more, and be without a vacuum the whole time. It’s really unfortunate how Dyson is handling the flaws on this model.

I have the same issue with my v12 detect. Reached out to askdyson on Jan 31. They sent me a new battery after I stated it was not an issue with the battery. The same problem exists, the vac keeps shutting off  after about 5 seconds over and over again. Sent a video of what was happening and never heard back from them again !

I have the same issue.  It take 5 or 6 times of starting the V12 for it to keep running.  I’ve cleaned everything that can be cleaned.  Even took the battery off and put it back on.  I do not store it on the charger and only charge it when needed.  This is frustrating.  What are my options.


I have the exact same issue as well. Started a few weeks ago. It started out taking about two tries to get it to run for a sustained amount of time. Now it takes many more attempts of starting and restarting (I’ve been most successful starting in eco mode first) to get it going. Looks like I’m just past warranty (was up in December 2024) so I don’t know what kind of options I have. Please help and thanks in advance.
