Can I shorten the cord on my new Dyson Animal complete?

Hi, I bought a Dyson Animal complete a couple of months ago. Great vacuum cleaner but for me the cord is too long and poses a trip hazard. I had a Dyson DC15 which had the perfect cord length. I’d have bought another one had it not been discontinued. Can I shorten the cord length to a more suitable length for my hours size without compromising my guarantee. This in no way would compromise the integrity of the machine. I am a retired electrician and would fit an MK plug to the vac.

Hi @James McCoo,

Welcome to the Dyson Community!

We would advise against altering your machine from it’s original specifications - including shortening the power cord - as this may void your 5-year Dyson guarantee, meaning future repairs or replacement parts could be chargeable.

Hope this helps!

What a  “get out of jail” answer. If your vacuum cleaner is as robust as the 5 year guarantee suggests I’ll take the chance and shorten the lead myself. Being a retired electrician I think I’m more than qualified to shorten the lead by 2 metres and fit a plug safely. Regards James McCoo.

Hi @James McCoo,

Thanks for your response. I’m just advising you of the points you might like to consider before taking action - to avoid any unpleasant surprises further down the line.

Of course it’s your decision!
