The switch to change from carpet to hardfloor isn't working.

I recently replaced the brushbar, so probably that's something to do with it.

Any guidance is appreciated

Hi @BillK,

Welcome to the Dyson Community!

It sounds like your Dyson DC33 vacuum’s brush control clutch and brush bar mechanism may not have been correctly reassembled after the work you carried out. But as this repair wasn’t completed by a Dyson engineer, it would be very difficult for us to pinpoint exactly what may be wrong in this particular instance.

We can only really suggest checking that all components (clutch, brush bar and soleplate) have been correctly reassembled, and that the drive belts and brush bar aren’t trapped or obstructed by anything.

Please also keep in mind that the brush bar will only rotate when your machine is reclined into the normal vacuuming position. When standing upright, or when the brush control is set for hard floors, the brush bar will not rotate - so make sure you recline it before testing!

Thanks Jack, I'll check it over, like you've suggested.

The other thing I've noticed is that after vacuuming the carpet pile has a ripple effect......any thoughts?

Much appreciated Bill

Hi @BillK,

No problem at all!

The ripple effect you’ve mentioned sounds unusual - it’s hard to say for sure what could be causing this. If the carpet pile has been trodden flat in a particular direction through daily use, it would be worth trying vacuuming it from a different direction to see if that improves things. Sometimes pushing against the direction of the pile can cause the cleaner head to ‘skip’, which could produce a ripple effect as you’ve described.
