I removed the bar as per the guide. I found some hairs trapped which I removed. I then disassembled the black protruding dowels which the bar rests in the centre of the head. I found a lot of debris there which I believe was the real cause of the problem. I then cleaned this area.
Unfortunately after assemble the brush bar does not spin. I presume the motor may have burned out or have been damaged at an earlier point due to the jam. I will look to replace the head if possible.
