Ontrac Noise Cancellation Increase Possible? | Dyson Community
Skip to main content

I love my Ontrac headphones overall, but was recently surprised when trying my girlfriend’s Apple iPod Max to discover that their noise cancellation is much stronger. Is there a way now, or future software or firmware update that would allow a user to increase the noise reduction db level? Thank you.

Not a shill for Dyson but the anc on the zones and ontracs are very comparable to that from apples variant and the akg n90q that I love. I've had the zones since lauch as well as the ontracs. I've tried the apples version when they launched but didn't like the feel. The ear cups were uncomfortable and I got fatigue from using them. Returned them and kept using my tried and true akg n90 q.

Hearing is going to be different from user to user so it's understandable that we are gonna have varying degrees of success with any headphone.

Maybe post up how long have you had the ontracs and what scenarios you have used them in. Are you hearing any artifacts or weird noises? Any info you can post to let us know more about your experience, other than "their cancellation is much stronger "?

Example,  I'm on a trip and use my zones on an airbusa321 neo. The anc counters chatter, spurious noises,  baby crying and lowers the hum of the engines. It's like I'm in a recording booth with acoustic foam and air-gapped from my surroundings ( one of my hats is being a music creator). Likewise for the ontracs!

Are you sure you're in isolation mode ?

I'm not trying to discount your experience with the headphones, just wanting to understand more about what you are perceiving.

Hi @gorg7778,

Welcome to the Dyson Community!

Dyson OnTrac™️ headphones offer best in class active noise cancellation, with a reduction of up to 40dB through passive and active attenuation.

Currently you can cycle between Isolation mode for maximum noise cancellation, Transparency mode to amplify surrounding noise, and Off. You can switch between modes using the MyDyson™️ app or by tapping firmly on the ear cap.

Our engineers are always looking to refine and improve our hardware and our software, and feedback like yours is very useful when considering potential enhancements. We can't reveal anything they may or may not be working on, but stay tuned for future updates!
