Does anyone know whether the old AM04 has a filter, and if so should it be serviced/cleaned/changed?

Welcome to the Dyson Community!
The Dyson Hot™ AM04 fan heater is not an air purifier, and does not include a filter.
Once your machine has been unplugged and allowed to cool down fully after use, all you need to do is check the perforated intake shroud at the base of the machine, and the loop amplifier, for any fluff or debris.
You can remove any obstructions using a soft dry cloth, or your vacuum cleaner’s soft dusting brush.
