Does Dyson have a take back scheme for its cordless vacuum cleaners?

Hello,

I have one of the earlier Dyson V cordless vacuum cleaner model that I would like to replace for a new model. I haven’t been able to see if Dyson would take my old device when I purchase the new one, either for a portion of the cost (however much it might be) or just for the handling of the disposal and stewardship of the recycling and repurposing of the materials which would be quite damaging to the environment should they were to end up in a landfill. This is a key criteria informing my decision either to invest again on Dyson or to buy a competitor’s who does have take back scheme at the end of the product’s life.

Thanks in advance for any information on the issue.

Hi @myrna

Thank you for raising this with us.

We are strongly committed to protecting the environment, and it is our responsibility to do so when designing, producing, and distributing our machines.

At this moment we do not have trade in services for partial discounts. The promotion was held earlier in this year.

I encourage you to read more WEEE - Recycling it’s very enlightening and in my opinion isn’t something they highlight enough.

If you don’t have the time to read and just wanted to know where you can recycle it under the WEEE directive visit https://www.recyclenow.com/local-recycling

Regards,

Thank you for the information and the link. Unfortunately, the directive is for the UK - I’m based in Australia, where the recycling for the batteries and the rest of the parts is not standardised across states.

Anyhow, the WEEE information is informative, indeed.

Thank you.

Alright @myrna, I’m not sure they run a likewise scheme in Australia - I did find these link: https://www.dyson.com.au/corporate-social-responsibility / https://www.dyson.com.au/newsroom/updates/september-2020/dyson-sustainability.

In the US, we're encourage to take the machines to a local recycling/resourcing centre. They dispose of the machines and any batteries. We can also take these to a local Dyson service centre (calling ahead first).
