Pause detect

The Dyson Supersonic Nural™ hair dryer’s motion sensing accelerometer detects when you’ve paused styling and put it down. It switches off the heater and reduces airflow to ultra-low flow to reduce unnecessary noise without you having to turn off the machine. This can be helpful when you pause styling to section your hair with clips.

To make sure Pause detect only activates when the machine is put down – and not for every momentary pause while styling – we deliberately programmed in a fractional delay of 240ms. To be sure Pause detect has activated, wait for the motor sound to ramp down before lifting your hand off the hair dryer.

How do I activate Pause detect?

The Dyson Supersonic Nural™ hair dryer’s Pause detect is automatic, and always on. It uses a motion sensing accelerometer to know when the hair dryer stops moving – turning off heat and reducing airflow.

Why does Pause detect work on some attachments, but not others?

Styling using the Dyson Supersonic Nural™ hair dryer’s Wave+Curl diffuser attachment involves the machine staying very still - we disabled Pause detect so your machine doesn’t turn off when you’re still styling.
