Scalp protect mode

The Dyson Supersonic Nural™️ hair dryer’s Scalp protect mode automatically adjusts the heat settings to make sure that the temperature at the scalp remains at a consistent 55°C (131°F). This helps maintain scalp moisture levels, prevent over drying and allows for comfortable, gentle drying.

The Time of Fight sensor tracks nine million data points every second, to ensure temperature is adjusted promptly and thermal comfort is maintained.

FAQs

Why is the target temperature 55°C (131°F) in Scalp protect mode?

55°C (131°F) is an optimum temperature for balancing thermal comfort with a fast dry time. The air temperature is adjusted to ensure 55°C (131°F) is maintained at the scalp as the distance between the dryer and the hair changes.

Can I use Scalp protect mode if I have thick hair?

Yes, you can! Although if you have very thick hair, you might want to use Scalp protect mode to dry your roots gently and then turn it off to dry the mid lengths and ends of your hair at a higher heat.

Why does Scalp protect mode work on some attachments, but not others?

Our user trials showed that some attachments aren’t used for distance styling or drying. There are also some attachments - for example, the Wide tooth comb - that need a higher heat for the best performance and style. Attachment learning will automatically recommend the appropriate heat setting for attachments without Scalp protect mode.

Why do the LED lights change colour automatically in Scalp protect mode?

In Scalp protect mode, when using the Styling concentrator or Gentle air attachment, the heat reduces automatically as it gets closer to your head for gentle drying. The Capsule illumination feature means that the LED lights change colour as the heat setting changes automatically.

When Scalp protect mode is turned off, the heat setting will stay the same unless you manually change it.

Why do the coloured LED lights switch off when I turn off Scalp protect mode?

If you’re styling your hair using an attachment compatible with Scalp protect mode - including the Styling concentrator or Gentle air attachment - and you choose to turn this mode off, Capsule illumination will switch off, to show that Scalp protect mode is no longer turned on.

For attachments that aren’t compatible with Scalp protect mode - including the Wave+Curl diffuser, Wide tooth comb, Flyway attachment - the LED light will always be turned on and change colour according to the current heat setting.

Why is the air temperature cooler when I use the Gentle air attachment?

This attachment lowers the airflow temperature slightly, for an extra gentle drying experience.

Does Scalp protect mode override Attachment learning?

Yes. The settings will adjust automatically to maintain a target temperature of 55°C (131°F) at the scalp.

Can you change the heat manually in Scalp protect mode?

No. In Scalp protect mode the heat adjusts automatically. To change the heat settings manually, turn off Scalp protect mode by pressing the button at the top of the clear end cap.

Can you permanently turn off scalp protect mode, instead of having to switch off every time you use it?

Hi @Jokirs,

Scalp protect mode is on by default when you switch the hair dryer on. To turn off Scalp protect mode press the button at the top centre of the end cap. To turn Scalp protect mode back on, press the button again.

Your Dyson Supersonic Nural™️ hair dryer remembers whether you last used Scalp protect mode for each attachment. For example, if you turn off Scalp protect mode when using your Styling concentrator, the next time you turn the hair dryer on, Scalp protect mode will be automatically turned off.

Hope this helps!
