cordless vacuum has plenty of suction but no pick up. | Dyson Community

I have three Dyson cordless vacuums, 1 x V6 slim, 1 x V7, and one later and larger one that does not identify a model number. I have only recently begun to use them regularly due to my wife passing, but I find that all of them simply push small bits of dirt (such as a small cheer or sesame seed) along and will not pick them up. Though there is plenty of suction, I have to lift the head and place it on top of the dirt before it will pick it up. I don’t recall my wife complaining about this, but I find it very frustrating to the point of ditching the lot and buying another brand. It appears the head has insufficient height to go over any small item and just pushes it along. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi @Littleron,

Welcome to the Dyson Community!

To ensure effective pickup of fine dust and trodden-in grit from carpeted floors, and from hard floors with deep crevices, the soleplate of the cleaner head is engineered to form a close seal with the floor surface.

Are you able to let us know if the pickup issue you’re experiencing with larger pieces of debris is happening on hard or carpeted floors, or both?

Hi Jack, it happens on hard floors.

Hi @Littleron,

Thanks for your reply!

Rather than replacing your machines with a brand new one, it may be more cost-effective to consider a Dyson Soft roller cleaner head. This is assuming none of the machines you own already include the Soft roller head, although if they do we’d recommend giving this a try.

The Soft roller cleaner head is optimised for gentle but effective hard floor cleaning, removing both larger debris - including cheerios and sesame seeds, as you’ve mentioned - and clinging fine dust particles:

Thanks Jack. One does have such a head and yes it works better. But of course it won’t fit the other two as they are different models. I will check out my options, but I think it is very poor that  Dyson sells machines that are only suitable for carpets and don’t advertise the fact. So I won’t be buying any more Dysons.

Hi @Littleron,

The motorised cleaner head is suitable for both carpet and hard floors - stiff nylon bristles agitate debris and stubborn pet hair from carpets, while anti-static carbon fibre filaments release clinging fine dust from hard floors.

As I’ve mentioned, the Soft roller cleaner head is optimised for hard flooring, and may be more effective for you if you’re struggling with larger debris.

We appreciate your feedback, and I’ll be happy to pass this along to the right people for you.
