Dyson Models - Identification and Differences - A Conversation | Dyson Community

Hello all,

I thought I would start a conversation on this topic as I think it is something that Dyson should look at making clearer in its advertising.

I bought a Dyson v15 yesterday after a couple of days researching brands and models.  I found a really good price for a Dyson v15 “Kit”, whatever that is.  As far as I can tell, every single Dyson vacuum core unit offering is identical.  Whether you buy the v15 on its own, in its Absolute and Extra forms, or any other package you might find, the core unit you receive is the same unit.  All that changes is the accessories that come with it (which are all available for purchase separately).  The same is true of the v11, v10, etc.

Now, let’s all be honest with each other.  Once the novelty of a new vacuum wears off, how often do you find yourself going into the cupboard to reach for a specific attachment (other than the extended nozzle for skirting and cobwebs), instead of just making do with the head that is currently on the unit?  You may as well buy the cheapest version of the unit you can and buy any additional accessories you find yourself needing in the future.

Clearly, Dyson is a business and it makes more money by selling more accessories.  However, why does it allow so much confusion to exist over whether there are any differences between its units of the same type?  It’s marketing does not state that the units are identical across the board.  Sometimes, the non-absolute kits appear to have small wording differences that could perpetuate the myth that there are differences.  A customer could be forgiven for thinking the Absolute variant is more powerful than the basic unit you buy with just a wide head and nozzle.

Dyson, please make this clearer for your consumers.
