I am confused about the v12 - Can Dyson help to clarify the online options?

I have been told that Dyson vacuum cleaners are the best and I want to buy a Dyson vacuum cleaner.  But I am confused and the Dyson website is the source of my confusion.  It is the v12 I want, but should I get the v12 detect slim or the v12 detect slim absolute?  I thought the difference was simply that the v12 detect slim absolute had more accessories and it cost more.  Let’s go to the Dyson website to confirm and learn more about the v12

https://www.dyson.co.uk/vacuum-cleaners/cordless/v12/reviews
The reviews are good but at the bottom the page the v12 detect slim costs £529.99 and has 8 accessories while the v12 detect slim absolute costs £479.99 and has 4 accessories

https://www.dyson.co.uk/vacuum-cleaners/cordless/v12/detect-absolute-yellow-nickel
But here the v12 detect slim absolute costs £529.99 and has 9 tools and accessories.

https://www.dyson.co.uk/vacuum-cleaners/cordless/v12
Here the yellow v12 detect slim has 8 accessories and costs £529.99.  Change the colour to gold and we see that a gold v12 detect slim absolute costs £479.99 and has 4 accessories.  (And if you click on the v12 prussian/blue button the v12 turns into a v15!!)

Are you confused too?  Hopefully someone from Dyson will read this and
1.  Acknowledge that the website is a mess;
2.  Tell us how many accessories the v12 detect slim absolute has, which colours are available and what they each cost;
3.  Ask someone in the website team to fix the website;

(I wasn’t going wait on hold for 40 minutes to talk to someone at Dyson and the online chat was next to useless.  I thought posting here was going to be the best option as Jack, the Dyson Community Specialist, seems pretty switched on and responsive.)

Hi @Nigel1976,

Thanks for your feedback on the website experience - I’m sorry you’ve found it confusing to navigate the range, and I’ll be happy to pass your comments along to the right teams for you.

I’m just investigating further to make sure the information I provide here is accurate - I’ll come back to update you as soon as possible.

Thanks for your patience in the meantime!

Hi @Nigel1976,

Just to follow up, I’ve confirmed the specifications of the three Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute™ variants available direct from Dyson. Thanks again for highlighting the anomalies on our website - I’ve fed these back to the relevant team, who will ensure they’re corrected as soon as possible.

Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute™ vacuum, in a gold/gold colourway, includes the Motorbar™ cleaner head and the Fluffy Optic™ soft roller cleaner head, plus the Combination tool and the Crevice tool. A Wall dok and charger cord are provided. It also includes the additional benefit of HEPA filtration. It’s currently priced at £479.99.

Please note, this information is correct at the time of writing, but details like specification, tool offering and pricing are subject to change from time to time.

Hope this helps clarify things for you a bit!

Thanks Jack

We are on the way to getting this sorted, but not quite there yet    It is not often I buy a new vacuum cleaner (the last was an early Dyson around 30 years ago - it has lasted well!) and I want to buy the right one.   So I can make sure I understand this, can you check though my summary below to confirm it is correct

1.  There is no difference between the Dyson V12 Detect Slim and the Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute – the terms are used interchangeably.

2.  If you want 4 accessories you buy the £479.99 package

3.  If you want 8 accessories you buy the £529.99 package

4.  If you also want HEPA filtration you have to buy the £549.99 package – this seems strange to me as HEPA filtration is specified on the Dyson website as a feature of the gold model at £479.99.

Hi @Nigel1976,

Congratulations, it sounds like your previous Dyson machine has been very well looked after - just what we love to hear!

To answer your questions in order:

  • All three V12 machines currently available direct from Dyson.co.uk are actually called Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute. One of the three was incorrectly labelled - this should now be fixed. The machines themselves are identical aside from the colour, the level of filtration offered, and the additional accessories they come with.
  • The included accessories are as I've listed above against each variant. It really depends not just on the number of accessories you want, but which accessories would be most useful for your home and cleaning needs. But of course, you could choose to order additional compatible accessories further down the line if the set you go for doesn’t include something you want.
  • HEPA filtration is included on two of the three machines available - the Gold/Gold variant, and the Prussian blue/Copper variant. The Yellow/Nickel variant traps 99.99% of microscopic particles and allergens as small as 0.3 microns.

Hope this provides some extra clarification for you!

Thanks Jack.  I appreciate your help and excellent service.

That answers all my technical questions about the v12.  I can now decide which variant to buy.  I have one final question which you may or may not be able to answer.  I see that the Dyson Black Friday sale has begun but the v12 is not currently included.  Might the v12 be offered at a discounted price later in the month or will it be excluded from your Black Friday offers in 2023?

Hi @Nigel1976,

No problem at all, and thanks again for your feedback!

Unfortunately we’re not able to confirm ahead of time whether V12 will be included in our UK Black Friday offers or not. Please continue to keep an eye on our Black Friday offer page for any updates.

I’m sorry I’m not able to give you a more definitive answer on your final question!

I am back with another question!

Regarding the three v12 variants, you wrote:
“The machines themselves are identical aside from the colour, the level of filtration offered, and the additional accessories they come with. ……. HEPA filtration is included on two of the three machines available - the Gold/Gold variant, and the Prussian blue/Copper variant. The Yellow/Nickel variant traps 99.99% of microscopic particles and allergens as small as 0.3 microns.”

However on the Dyson website there is this information in the sections headed Specifications
Yellow: Filtration - Advanced Filtration
Gold:  Filtration - Whole-machine HEPA
Prussian blue:  Filtration - Advanced Filtration

I also note that the gold variant has less suction power and is heavier than the other two colours.  Is this a consequence of HEPA filtration?

Could you clarify.

Thanks
Nigel
