Possible asbestos exposure on carpet. Will any fibres get trapped inside the filter and not expel back into the room. Very worried. Have an animal ball multi floor. Helpline was not at all helpful.  Washed carpet with a Vax. Want to hoover to make sure all fibres are gone but concerned they will get back into air in the room through the Dyson

Hi @julieL,

Welcome to the Dyson Community!

We would advise against using any domestic vacuum cleaner to pick up asbestos or any other hazardous substances, as they haven’t been engineered or tested for this purpose.

Dyson vacuums have been been designed to effectively pick up and retain ordinary household dust, debris, pet hair and allergens from around the home.

Hope this helps!

Thank you Jack. But Dyson claims that its filter captures down to 0.3 micron size particles. Asbestos is 0.3 - 0.6 microns in size. When I corresponded online to Dyson they said it would do the job fine. I just wanted to double check

Hi @julieL,

Thanks for your reply!

Although Dyson filters do work very effectively at trapping microscopic particles like household dust and allergens, we’d still always advise against using your machine to pick up hazardous substances.

For a material like asbestos, we’d encourage you to consult a professional hazardous substance removal firm as they’re best-placed to offer qualified advice about the safest way to do this.
