Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer: Choosing the right brush for perfect drying | Dyson Community

Whether you want smooth strands or voluminous curls, the secret of styling while drying your hair lies in choosing the right brush to match your hair dryer.

Drying with a hair dryer brush is a great way to achieve natural, trouble-free styling with minimal heat damage. Dyson offers three brushes designed to suit every hair type and style, ready to be combined with the Dyson Supersonic™hairdryer for a salon look, at home.

The flat brush for straight hair

The advantages of using a flat brush

Although the flat brush can be used on both wet and dry hair, it is most effective on wet hair before styling due to its detangling capabilities. The flat and wide shape combined with the air-filled cushion and bristles, provide optimal control and coverage with every shot. For this reason, the flat brush can work wonders for those who have an abundance of long and thick hair.

Dry your hair with a flat brush

  1. Before styling, use the flat brush to divide the hair into two equal parts and brush down from root to tip to flatten and stretch it. This movement helps remove any knots or tangles caused by drying the hair earlier.
  2. Prepare Dyson Supersonic™ by attaching the concentrator to create smoother airflow during drying and set the heat to low.
  3. Hold the hairdryer over your head and follow the flat brush down as it slowly slides through the strands of hair. Repeat this technique continuously on each section of your hair until completely dry.
  4. For best results, we recommend using the Dyson Corrale™ straightener on dry hair tips to tame any unwanted creases.
  5. As a finishing touch, use the finish accessory that hides the folds in one pass for a smooth and shiny finish.

Choosing the flat brush

Typically, your choice of hairbrush should be based on the length and texture of your hair. However, in the case of the flat brush, where the goal is to achieve a style of straight hair, most variants will provide a satisfactory result. The flat brush designed by Dyson is ideal for all hair types and lengths, making it an appropriate choice for everyone. Made for optimal comfort, the Dyson-designed flat brush offers an air cushion suspension and rounded bristles, and a weighted handle for balance. It is also heat resistant up to 150°C/302°F.

Round brush to give volume and shape

The advantages of using the round brush

What makes the perforated cylindrical brush so special is its versatility - turning lifeless strands into loose waves. This is achieved when the centre of the brush is filled with hot air from the hair dryer and is distributed through the small ventilated holes while styling. Depending on how you use it, a perforated cylindrical brush can add shape to the tip, a fold in the centre, volume at the root, or give a boost to the fringe.

Dry your hair with a round brush

  1. Pre-dry your hair using the average speed and medium heat setting on the Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer and Gentle air accessory. Drying your hair in advance will save time for styling.
  2. Once almost dry, separate the hair using a flat brush or comb and attach the concentrator accessory to Supersonic™ for maximum precision during the styling process.
  3. Starting with the bangs, wrap your hair around the round brush from below and place the hair dryer on top, pointing downwards - holding until completely dry. This will result in a rounded fringe when the brush is released.
  4. To create longer-lasting curls, wrap a section of your hair around the brush in an upward direction and direct the concentrator over the wrapped hair, holding for a few seconds to let the heat fix the style. Repeat this step again, but this time, wrap your hair around the brush in the opposite direction. Gently unroll your hair from the round brush each time and watch the curls unfold.
  5. For best results, apply a lacquer or styling serum to your newly created waves to keep them intact all day long.

Choosing a round brush

Round brushes differ in diameter, density and material, and each of these characteristics contributes to the final result. The Dyson round brush is available in two sizes; 35 mm /1.4 Inch for short and medium length hair and fringes, and 45 mm / 1.8 Inch for longer hair.

Like all brushes designed by Dyson, it features a weighted handle for balance and round-tipped bristles for scalp comfort. As the name suggests, the Dyson round brush has been designed with a ventilated central body to prevent hair from overheating.

Discovering the comb

In addition to the flat brush and round brush, the comb designed by Dyson has two main purposes: to untangle and stretch before drying and to shape and finish after styling. Wet hair is prone to breakage, so the detangling comb is designed with wide, shiny teeth to easily slide through wet and dry hair - with minimal friction.
