I am the proud owner of a new Animal 3 Mutlifloor …..but
it is very hard to push on carpet.
Looked on YouTube where I found the same issue, a possibly solution offered being a replacement ‘easy push’ motorised head, but the review of this showed that it made little difference.
On careful visual inspection of the three way slider on the motorised roller/beater head and what physical changes to the airflow through the head occur when moving the slider from ‘floor’ to ‘carpet’ through a floor+carpet mid position, I could tell that there were two ways in which suction could be ‘wasted’ to reduce the drag when the Animal was pushed or pulled across the floor.
Both of these ways are effected by opening and closing vents, two below the head in front of the roller/beater and two to the left and right of the slider that draw air through perorated metal gauzes above the head in front of the roller/beater.
Logically, to me, to get three different levels of suction the slider should operate the cams that open and close the vents to have both closed for max suction, and both open for minimum suction, with one or other open for a suction between the two.
But that is not the case here….
The slider closes both vents for maximum suction but does not open both vents for minimum suction - instead of this the carpet setting opens the vents on top of the head while closing those underneath, and the middle position opens the vents underneath while closing the vents on top of the head.
What the poor review of the ‘easy push’ head suggests to me is that nobody involved in the design understood that the initial design of the slider switch and was flawed.
I would suggest that simply replacing the cams beneath the slider to close both vents as they do now, but open only the vents underneath the head in the middle setting and opening both sets of vents in the carpet position.
Is that too hard to do?
