alexa voice control of air purifier fan

My WiFi enabled air purifier was responding to Alexa voice commands, but returns unresponsive sometimes now. This occurs also when using the Alexa controls on my phone. It can take more than one try to work.

The mydyson app works ok, eliminating my network as the cause.

Voice control to all other devices work well. Eliminating Alexa as the cause.

This appears to be a fault at Dyson servers.

Hi @Fan,

Welcome to the Dyson Community! Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Alexa continually improves its natural voice recognition the more it is used. Over time, ease of use will enhance; however, certain utterances and commands may need to be formatted specifically for Alexa to recognize them. For instance, instead of saying "Alexa, turn on oscillation mode," try asking "Alexa, turn on oscillation." This approach can work with other commands as well.

Alexa says the device is not responding, even to a simple command like fan on or fan off. But was responding in the past.

Is your comment hypothetical or have you succeeded in operating using Alexa reliably.

Have you contacted with your IT personnel on this issue

Having said that saying turn fan on and off is working now, even though in Alexa routine the command is fan on or fan off. Saying temperature up or down increments temperature successfully. Any suggestions for the command for switching between cooling and heating?

It's not just you. I have been having exactly the same problems with both Alexa and Google Home, while the Dyson app on both iOS and Android still work, leading me to strongly suspect Dyson's cloud services. This is not a voice recognition problem.

Dyson, please acknowledge the issue and fix this!

I believe the process is as follows

Voice Command > Alexa > Request to Dyson > Processed by Dyson > Sent by Dyson to device > Alexa gets confirmation and says (eg) OK.

Implying it is a Dyson issue

I’ve had the same issue since a few days ago. I thought it was my problem. My Dyson purifier is linked to Alexa app. If I open the Alexa app and find the device, I can turn it on or off from the Alexa app with significant delays but it’s working. However, with voice control, it’s always “xxx is not responding”. I tried to remove and add the device back, tried to disable and enable the Dyson skill, tried to unplug and replug the device… none of them worked. I really hope this can be fixed soon.

Yep, I've tried those same steps and had the same results.

We've been using Dyson for years, this problem is not caused by commands of alexa, it is simply a technical issue coming from dyson's side, whether it's a server or skill, but definitely not from users side.
