Dyson Submarine - fit for purpose? | Dyson Community

My wife bought a Dyson Submarine back in June 2024.  I was a bit miffed to find that it comes as a complete V15 as we already had a V15! I really like the original V15 - its innovative & effective, does what it says on the tin! But the Submarine… apart from the expense, the wet-roller head just isn’t, IMHO, engineered to the same robustness as the rest of the machine and not up to the cleaning of a large, 5 bed, 3-storey house with wood floors throughout (about 270 sq m). Within a month the thin plastic strip that is the extension of the top around the front had broken away; though purely cosmetic it clearly isn’t thick enough to withstand the occasional knock against furniture or the skirting board. After 3 months the clean water tank started leaking - a crack had appeared at the corner of the tank where the screw holds the blue top to the clear tank.  We took it back, late September 2024, to the retailer and spoke to the Dyson specialist who swapped the tank unit with a ‘new’ one from a display machine, which seemed a reasonable and expedient solution at the time. However, by December the new tank unit, though not leaking yet, has a visible crack appearing at the same location. Not that that matters as the head unit itself is disintegrating. Two of the screws at the open end of the unit have fallen out - the plastic lugs they screwed into have simply crumbled to dust - which means the whole tank/roller unit no longer clips firmly into the head, and the main plastic spar that supports the roller assembly has a clear stress fracture developing along its length.

So its now back to the retailer to discuss a refund as not fit for purpose - wish me luck…

My wife says that if she’d known the G1 was being released shortly after the Submarine she would have bought one of those instead as it seems more suited to the larger property, however it was never mentioned by the sales staff. And from reading here, it appears to have its own set of problems.

Sad really, as we’ve been a long time supporter of this British manufacturer - multiple vacuums (DC01. DC03, Ball, V10, V15), fan, hairdryer, etc.
