I own both the Dyson V15 and the Omniglide, and both have become unusable due to a serious design flaw. Within 2 months, both vacuums started to emit a terrible odor. I regularly empty the dustbin, wash the filter as instructed, and clean the attachments, but nothing helps. The air exhausted from the vacuum stinks, making them impossible to use.
The root cause is that fine dust gets trapped deep inside the vacuum motor and cyclones. Over time, this buildup occurs with no way for the user to clean it out. If you've vacuumed a rug your dog sleeps on, that dust and debris get stuck internally. This is what's causing the odor, not just a dirty filter. You can find videos on YouTube, like “Vacuum repair man shows how to take apart and reassemble Dyson V11 for cleaning,” showing the massive dust buildup inside the cyclones.
Changing filters won’t solve the issue—the problem is the cyclone buildup. The only solution is to take the machine apart, which voids the warranty, or send it to an authorized service center. I've had to do this twice, only for the issue to reoccur within weeks.
It's outrageous that Dyson is charging premium prices for machines that develop this problem simply by doing their job. I’m now escalating this to Dyson's new CEO, Hanno Kirner, for answers. This is unacceptable!
