I have an older Dyson ball vacuum which I did replace filters eventually with ones that stated they are compatible on Amazon, but didn't know if it was necessary. I am curious about that. I just purchased a V8 cordless vacuum and wonder if replacing the filters at any point is necessary or if washing them will keep them maintained?
Hi
Welcome to the Dyson Community!
The filters in Dyson vacuums are engineered and tested to last the lifetime of your machine, when used and maintained according to the User guide.
The pre-motor filter helps protect the motor, while the post-motor filter captures microscopic dust particles, allergens, and carbon dust from the motor (in Dyson upright and cylinder vacuums).
For the Dyson V8 cordless vacuum, we recommend washing both filters at least once a month. Use cold water without detergent, and allow both filters to air dry completely for 24-48 hours before refitting them:
You could always choose to replace the filters further down the line if you wanted to - but this would be up to you. As long as the filters are maintained correctly, it shouldn’t be necessary.
Hope this helps!
