When I press down the red button, the exhaust filter unit in the orange ball no longer pops out. As I am 3 hours away from the nearest Dyson service centre with an old machine, is there a DIY fix?
Hi
Welcome to the Dyson Community!
If your DC24’s red filter locking catch is worn or damaged in some way, this could make it trickier than normal to remove.
If the Service Centre isn’t an option for you, all we can really suggest is pressing down firmly on the release catch, and at the same time pulling up on the filter itself with a firm, constant force. This should disengage the catch and unjam the filter.

Didn’t work: I just managed to pinch my fingers with the pliers while trying to grip the filter. How come Dyson has repair agents in Hobart (population is maybe 57,000) and Alice Springs (population 33,000) but not Canberra (population 473,) ie, around 10x bigger?
