Ontrac ANC or no noise cancellation during a call | Dyson Community
Skip to main content

I just got my Ontracs yesterday coming from 3 years of AirPod maxes.

if we put aside the loss of being in the  “Apple ecosystem” , the headphones are pretty great and the ANC is stronger in different situations.

Unfortunately something that is a bit of a deal breaker is I can’t find a way to enable ANC or disable noise isolation during a phone call. I was at a train station trying to listen to a meeting and I couldn’t hear a thing… i had to switch to my handset.

It felt like the headphones actually made things worse, the trains and people sounded louder and the voices coming through the call were quieter.

i went through settings and can’t find a way to disable this “call adjustment” feature. How can I do it?

as some further feedback, noting that I love the headphones:

in general I get the feeling that Dyson and the app has taken away a lot of choice from the user(can’t change the what the buttons do, can’t disable the tap for noise isolation, only 3 eqs etc) plus this phone call issue.

i understand that people can speak louder when their noise cancelling is on, but I think it should be our choice on whether we want to embarrass ourselves or not haha.

just curious, did you read the manual or look in the app for help on how to activate/deactivate the anc?

i never had an issue with hearing folks speak to me when in transparent mode on the ontracs or the zones. you double tap the side of the headphones, as it says in the manual, and hear amplified outside noise. sometimes i have had to double tap stronger on my zones ( ontracs are much better at this) but i can hear just fine. you should hear a sound that lets you know when the modes change.

if you are able to deactivate the anc and you are just saying you cant hear outside conversations with the headphones on, maybe you should return them and go back to the apple ecosystem with the headphones you clearly love (apples max). we all hear differently, and maybe they are just not for you.

Hey, apologies as I probably wasn’t clear enough.

When I’m on a phone call or google meet etc on my phone, I can’t deactivate the “Transparency” feature (through the app or through double tapping), the noises outside sound louder, and the voices/volume of the call feels much lower.

The ANC is amazing, and I like the headphones - and am actually a bit of an Apple hater. I’m just disappointed in this issue on voice calls.

@ernables I think you misunderstood @dyrt54 as he is complaining about the isolation/transparency mode during a phone call. At the moment your arent able to change the mode during a call. It is switching to transparency for you to be able to hear your own voice. He wants to switch it back to ANC.

yea i misunderstood. thanks for the follow up.🤓
