Dyson DC40 Brush Bar won't spin when activated

Hi there,

The Brushbar of my Dyson DC40 will no longer spin when the brush bar button is activated on the machine. I have removed the active base plate from the machine and both parts of the brush bar. There doesn’t seem too be anything clogging the bars that I can see when they have been removed. My machine is no longer in guarantee.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated

Many Thanks

Declan

Hi @thedecmyster,

Welcome to the Dyson Community!

If troubleshooting the cleaner head itself hasn’t resolved the issue, it’s possible the issue lies within the main body of the vacuum. To help pinpoint the cause we'll need our Customer Care experts to take you through some further diagnostic checks when you have your Dyson DC40 vacuum easily to hand. If a replacement part or a repair is needed, they’ll be able to discuss your options with you.

Please visit Dyson.com and click Support to get in touch with the right Dyson Customer Care team for your region.

We'll look forward to speaking with you!

I contacted dyson and they wanted me too send it in for a repair but would cost me £99 as it’s no longer in guarantee, there’s someone in my area locally that fixes Dysons will contact them see what they can do, if the costs are going too be over £100 i’d be aswell buying another vacuum. I stupidly bought a replacement base plate thinking it was that but wasn’t the brush bar won’t spin on that either.

Hi @thedecmyster,

Thanks for your reply!

A repair carried out by Dyson includes labour and genuine replacement parts where needed (excluding additional accessories and filters), and costs £79, or £99 if the motor needs replacing.

It would also be backed with a 1-year guarantee on any work carried out.

Of course, it’s up to you whether to repair or replace your machine, or investigate other repair options.

Hope this helps!
