V11 filter always dirty - now fixed

Hello,

After years of use our Dyson V11s filter would require cleaning after every use as it was full of dust. This was certainly not the case when it was new, monthly cleaning was hardly required. After trying a new filter with the same result and trying all the online recommendations nothing helped.

after some investigating I found that the unit was very dirty internally, and there is no way to get inside and clean it. This left me with two options, taking it apart or trying to blow out buildup. I opted for the second option.  Now at this point I must stress that there is the potential of doing irreparable damage to the unit, but since this was the end of the road for our V11 I accepted that risk.

After shaking out as much of the dust from the intake (it took 20 minutes) and an enormous quantify came out we moved outside. A variable speed leaf blower was used and the filter removed. As gently as possible, with short pulses clouds of dust were blown out, including chunks at times. When the quantity of dust reduced we moved to a shop air gun and carefully continued cleaning until the dust stopped.

With the filter and attachments back in place I was relieved that the V11 was running as it should and after cleaning the house the filter was not clogged! The cleaning efficiency seems to have improved significantly, judging by the number of times the bin required emptying.

I’ll try and provide an update in a weeks, hopefully confirming the problem is solved.

Hi @Jj1,

Welcome to the Dyson Community, and thanks for taking the time to share your feedback here!

It’s normal for static charge generated in use to cause fine dust particles to cling to parts of the clear bin and cyclone pack. Firmly tapping the top of the cyclone pack each time you empty your machine should dislodge and remove much of this, preventing it from building up over time.

Most important is ensuring your machine’s floor tool, wands and ducts are free of obstructions, and the filter is washed regularly following the directions in the User guide.

I’m sure your Dyson V11™ vacuum will continue to work well for you, but you’re welcome to get back in touch if you need further support at any point.
