OK I ordered the low reach adapter for the Gen5detect . On the website it states that the adapter works with this model.

Low-reach adaptor

Bends to comfortably reach down low. Engineered to clean further under low furniture by adjusting the wand angle up to 90°.

Engineered to fit Dyson Gen5detect™️, Gen5outsize™️, V15™️, V11™️, V10™️, V8™️, and V7™️ vacuums​.

 

I ordered it twice thinking I screwed up. The box does not list the Gen5detect. Called support and they were as confused as I was. Told me this is the first they  have heard of this.. Really!

So I looked at the part and grabbed a wirecuter and removed the Key/Plastic piece that is on the wrong side of the gray part and blocking it from attaching.   Works great now. 

 

Very strange I can not be the only one looking for this part.

Thanks for letting us know about this - I’m sorry to hear about your frustrating experience. To confirm, we don’t have a Low-reach adaptor available as a standalone accessory which is compatible with the Dyson Gen5detect™️ vacuum, so it looks like this has been listed in error.

Are you able to share a link to the page you purchased from? If you ordered from Dyson direct, we can feed this back to the right team to ensure it’s corrected.

Thanks for the quick response. That's so funny. I can't believe I'm the only one that sees this. Anyway, here you go. Also, why don't you sell that as a spare part? When I bought the vacuum I never saw anything with a full kit?

It's a great attachment.   

Anyway I made the other one work. 😂

Just to confirm the relevant teams are investigating this and will make any updates needed to the listing to accurately reflect compatibility! 

FYI several weeks later 971435-01 still shows up in the “tools and accessories” shop page for the gen5detect, and the web page for it explicitly says it’s compatible, but I just had one delivered today and sure enough the box says nothing about the gen5detect and it has the plastic tab in the connector that prevents it from attaching.

 

Break out the Dremel my friend or even a pair of wire snips cut that plastic piece off. It'll work great. It's a great accessory, works very well.
