The black mesh sponge in my Dyson V10 broken apart and got caught in filter

There’s an old post with the same title. I can’t post it because it’s been closed out. I’m having the same issue so what was the final resolution from Dyson? My thought is a poor selection of materials when they designed the vacuum.

The mesh is detaching in the main body coming out through the round holes in the main body.
Dyson support got back with me on Facebook Messenger and confirmed the resolution it total replacement of the main body which I was told since my unit is out of warranty it is at cost to me.
So Dyson will not stand behind the fact the vacuum was manufactured with substandard material in the black plastic mesh that was used.
I can only hope that Dyson has realized this and stopped using this material to prevent future failures.
One of my past careers was as an aircraft maintenance technician where part of my job was to identify failure modes and repair and provide input through reporting means  to improve flight safety.
If this component were part of an aircraft it would need to be addressed for sure.

The above link takes me to the filter not the cleaner head.
Is Dyson replacing this component or is the consumer having to pay for it? Not good that it needs to be replaced just because substandard materials were used in the coarse sponge material. Just saying.

I think there may be a misunderstanding here. The problem is not with the filter it is with the Non-User replaceable coarse sponge material that is used in the air discharge path from the machine and then through the HEPA filter portion of the air filter assembly. The filter is doing its job but the black coarse sponge material which is probably more of a diffuser/silencer  than anything else is physically degrading and disintegrating due to the material that is  made from. An aluminum material would have been a better choice  since it does not degrade as most plastics and rubbers do. Just my thoughts.

Hi @Bobakman,

Could you please confirm whether the black mesh is detaching from the filter or the main body? This will help us assist you in identifying the appropriate resolution.

I'll look forward to speaking with you!

Hi @Bobakman,

Thank you for getting back to me again - we're sorry to hear you feel this way about your Dyson Cyclone V10™ vacuum.

The main body of a Dyson machine is built for durability and reliable performance. With proper care and regular maintenance, including cleaning filters and ensuring smooth operation, it continues to function efficiently over time.

Outside of our free 2-year warranty period, replacement parts or repairs would be chargeable.

There’s nothing we can do via the Dyson Community to change the outcome here, but if you change your mind about the replacement you’re welcome to continue your conversation directly with the Dyson Customer Care team. You can reach them by visiting Dyson.com and clicking Support.
