My purifier always shows outside temperature as 16deg. Am I supposed to do something to activate it?

You just need set the ‘Home location’ in the app.
Outside/location data will then start to appear. Pollen count, humidity, AQI and temperature.

It doesn’t update in real-time though. You’ll have to close the app to get it to refresh..
