To start zoning, creating restrictions and sending the machine on direct cleans, the machine will first need to be connected to the Dyson App and have successfully create a map of your home. To create this map, it will navigate around the home with the brush bar turned off and must return to the dock uninterrupted.

For larger homes, the robot may need to return to the dock to recharge before completing the mapping process.

We recommend preparing your home ahead of this mapping process. It’s a good idea to tidy up any loose objects from the floor, open the internal doors and ensuring that there is a clear path for your robot to navigate, so that it can map your whole home.

View our ‘Preparing your home’ article for some further hints and tips on this subject.

As the Robot needs a complete an accurate map of your home, if there are any problems during mapping, it's better to start again.

Once your machine is connected, you can begin mapping your home by simply pressing the ‘Settings’ icon in the top right, then selecting ‘Mapping and zoning’ and following the on-screen instructions.

More information on connecting your machine to the Dyson App can be found on our Connecting your robot to the App article.

What next?

After your home has been successfully mapped, you’ll be able to assign zones for directed cleaning. You’ll also be able to create restrictions that your robot will follow when cleaning.

To help you get the most out of these features, we’ve created the ‘Zoning your map’ and ‘Creating restrictions’ articles.
